Breakdancing, also known as breaking, is one of the most popular street dance styles practiced all over the world. The style originated in the United States in the early 1970s. To be more precise, breaking evolved in the African American communities in New York City. Breakdancing has certain movements that distinguish the style, among which are freezes, toprock and downrock, as well as power moves. It is typically performed to funk, soul, or hip hop music since these genres usually have drum breaks.

Today, breakdancing is extremely popular all over the world. Many dance schools in Europe, North America, Australia, Asia, and Africa offer this direction for both children and adults. In addition to that, there are many breaking competitions for professionals all around the globe. As a matter of fact, breakdancing has recently become an Olympic sport and will be featured in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics for the first time in its history.
