Belly Dance
About this style
Belly dance, or from Egyptian Arabic, Folk Dance, is a style that originated in Egypt. The dance style mostly features the moves of the hips and torso (belly, shoulders, chest) and is believed to be rather beneficial for women’s health. Nowadays, belly dance has many substyles varying depending on location, yet the most recognized one is still Egyptian style since it was popularized by Egyptian cinema.
The dance itself consists of certain peculiar moves that distinguish it from other dance styles. For instance, among these moves are shimmies, vibrations, shivers, and staccato movements of the hips, chest, and rib cage, as well as fluid moves that emphasize lyrical sections and melodic lines of music.
Today, the style is popular all over the world, including Europe, the UK, North America, Australia, and Africa. Almost every country has belly dance schools for both professionals and enthusiasts so that anyone can try this style.
